Philips Hue setup

Prerequisites

  1. Hue Bridge on the same subnet as the Raspberry Pi (avoid guest Wi‑Fi isolation).
  2. Hue app used to name rooms and lights clearly.

Steps

  1. Open Settings → Smart Home → Philips Hue.
  2. Tap Discover bridge — approve link button press on the physical bridge when prompted.
  3. Wait for sync — rooms and lights appear as tiles.
  4. Pick default rooms to show on the dashboard to avoid clutter.
  5. Assign scenes (“Movie night”, “Dinner”) if your build supports quick scenes.

💡 Tip: Give the bridge a DHCP reservation so rediscovery after reboot is instant.

Voice

Use Smart home voice phrases like “turn on the living room lights”.

Troubleshooting

Bridge not found
ping bridge IP from Pi; fix VLAN/firewall; confirm mDNS works or enter manual IP.

Lights greyed out
Power cut to bulbs — power-cycle the fixture; check Hue app health.
